KARACHI, Pakistan, April 21 (UPI) -- Amir Mir claims his brother, prominent Pakistani TV news anchor Hamid Mir, was shot Saturday by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence in an assassination attempt.

Pakistan's intelligence agency has refuted the allegations. Public Relations Director General Asim Bajwa said he welcomed news that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has appointed a three-person judicial commission to investigate the attack.

The Pakistani Army also announced it would investigate the allegations against ISI.

On Saturday, the TV personality was shot three times with injuries to his intestines, leg, and pelvic area. The gunmen, riding in a car and on two motorcycles, shot Hamid Mir near the Karachi airport.

The U.S. Department of State issued a statement condemning "the latest in a series of worrisome attacks on journalist in Pakistan."
