Abducted UNICEF workers returned 'safe and well'

Two UNICEF workers, who were abducted on April 17 from the Pakistani port city of Karachi, have been returned "safe and well," the UN announced Monday.

KARACHI, Pakistan, April 21 (UPI) -- Two members of the United Nations Children's Fund in Karachi were returned "safe and well" after their April 17 abduction, the UN announced Monday.

The Pakistani police led the search for the two national staff members. There were no further details regarding the circumstances of their abduction or rescue.

"Our colleagues are safe and well, and are being supported by UNICEF’s Karachi office, and hope to be afforded privacy as they recover from their ordeal,” the UN said in a statement.
