Jordan's ambassador to Libya abducted by masked gunmen

TRIPOLI, Libya, April 15 (UPI) -- Jordanian Ambassador Fawaz al-Aytan was abducted Tuesday by masked gunmen who ambushed his convoy.

Both the Jordanian and Libyan foreign ministries confirmed the abduction.

The ambassador and his security detail were taken after their convoy was ambushed in central Tripoli by masked gunmen in two vehicles without license plates. The ambassador's driver was shot twice during the assault.

There was no further information regarding the identity of the kidnappers or the whereabouts of the ambassador and his security team.
