April 2 (UPI) -- Argentine President Cristina Kirchner has agreed to be the godmother of a lesbian couple's daughter after the couple asked her on Facebook.

Karina Villaroel and Soledad Ortiz welcomed their daughter Umma Azul into the world on January 27 after Ortiz underwent in-vitro fertilization. Villaroel and Ortiz then sent Kirchner a message through Facebook asking her to be Umma's godmother. When Kirchner responded saying she would be happy to be her godmother, the couple were thrilled.

"I hope she can come to the [baptism] ceremony and does not send a representative. It's a dream come true for us," said Villaroel.

The two are non-practicing Catholics and they say they will encourage Umma to choose her religion on her own.
