A NATO commander calls the Russian troop presence at the Ukrainian border "very sizable" and "very ready."
Since the Russian invasion of the Crimean peninsula, Ukraine and Western nations have been concerned that Russia plans to push their invasion further into mainland Ukraine. There are nearly 9,000 Russian troops at Ukraine's eastern border, which has Ukraine preparing for the possibility of invasion, despite Russia's claims of being below international troop limits at the border.
"We are very much concerned about this development and the deployment of Russian troops on our eastern borders," said Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Deshchytsia to ABC's This Week, "We are ready to respond and as you know the Ukrainian government is trying to use all the peaceful means and diplomatic means to stop Russians but people are also ready to defend their homeland."
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia has no further interest than Crimea, but will work to protect ethnic Russians in other countries.
