Three killed in attack on traffic control point in central Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey, March 20 (UPI) -- Two soldiers and a police officer were killed in an attack on a traffic control point on a highway in Nigde province in Turkey Thursday, officials said.

The attackers opened fire with long-range shotguns from a delivery car near a viaduct then fled, Dogan News Agency reported.

Anadolu news agency said two of the assailants were captured and a third was at large.

Officials said four soldiers were injured, two critically.

An initial investigation indicated the attackers may be Syrian, the news agency said.
