CHANGSHA, China, March 14 (UPI) -- Five people were killed in a knife attack at an outside market in China's Hunan province Friday, police said.

Police shot and killed the assailant as he tried to flee, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

Officials said the knife fight broke out between two businessmen at the market in Changsha, the provincial capital. One businessman was hacked to death by the other, who stabbed four people as he fled.

Two of the stabbing victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the two others died in a hospital, Xinhua said.
