TAIYUAN, China, March 13 (UPI) -- The death toll from a road collision and resulting explosion in northern China has risen to 31 and nine people are still missing, officials said Thursday.
The deadly incident took place March 1 on a highway linking Jincheng, Shanxi province, and Jiyuan, Henan province, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Two trucks carrying methanol, a poisonous and flammable liquid, collided inside the Yanhou Tunnel along the highway, causing an explosion.
Police said 42 vehicles were damaged in the incident, making it difficult to determine the number of people killed.
