Thousands of people took to the streets of Istanbul to protest the death of Berkin, claiming the government killed the teenager after he was injured last June.
"We are here because this little boy -- although we do not know him like you know face-to-face -- is a part of us." said one protester, "We know who killed him. It is the government. It is [Prime Minister] Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. We have to be here because we have responsibilities to Berkin."
As the protests went on into the night police started throwing tear gas and striking the protesters. The protesters once again called for Erdoğan to resign. Erdoğan has promised to step down if his party, the Justice and Development party (AKP), lose the local elections on March 30.
