NOTRE-DAME-DES-BOIS, Quebec, March 12 (UPI) -- Pauline Marois, leader of Canada's separatist Parti Quebecois, said an independent Quebec would have no tolls imposed in traveling to the rest of Canada.
Parti Quebecois is a political party advocating national sovereignty for the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec.
Marois made her remarks Tuesday at Notre-Dame-des-Bois while unveiling the party's tourism policy.
"People would be able to travel freely through Quebec, and Quebecers would continue to be able to visit (other Canadian provinces) the Maritimes and British Columbia," she said.
Marois elaborated, later Tuesday, that she envisioned a model based on that of the European Union, which allows free travel between countries in Europe. She added Quebec citizens would require their own passports and unique citizenship, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Wednesday.
