A militant group calling itself Fidayee Front of Afghanistan's Islamic Movement has claimed responsibility for killing a Swedish journalist in Kabul.
52-year-old Nils Horner, who also holds British citizenship, was shot and killed outside a Kabul restaurant on Tuesday. Horner was in Afghanistan as the South Asia correspondent for Sveriges Radio.
Fidayee Front of Afghanistan's Islamic Movement posted a statement to its website claiming it targeted Horner because he was a British intelligence officer. According to spokesman Qari Hamza, “Mujahideen targeted Nils Horner. Nils Horner was killed in this attack. He was not a journalist. He was a spy of (M.I.6), he was a special worker of (M.I.6)."
The Movement claims loyalty to deceased Taliban leader Mullah Dadullah, and operates separately from the Afghanistan Taliban, led by Mullah Mohammed Omar.
Afghan officials are continuing to investigate Horner's death and are searching for two men seen fleeing the the attack.
