NEW YORK, March 10 (UPI) -- Former NBA basketball player Dennis Rodman vowed to never return to North Korea again if that is what Americans want.

Rodman raised controversy and a lot of anger when he went on a series of trips to North Korea to visit his "friend" North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

"I don't want people to look at me as the devil or an evil person. If I put anyone in harm's way, I apologize." Rodman said to ESPN before waving to the camera and saying, "If you don't want me to go back, I won't go back."

The UN's commission on human rights in North Korea released a report in February saying the North Korean leadership has engaged in systematic human rights abuses. Kim Jong-un could be brought in front of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity.

Rodman believes he will be vindicated one day and that North Korea's relations with the rest of the world will improve.
