MOSCOW, March 7 (UPI) -- Most Russians believe a woman's place is in the home, not working toward a career, a survey found.

The survey, the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research, or VTsIOM published Friday, found that a majority of respondents believe women should not seek jobs outside of their homes, RIA Novosti reported.

"When there's a choice between a career and family, a woman should give her preference to the home and family, and work should be placed on the back burner, according to 72 percent of Russians," VTsIOM said.

Twenty percent of respondents said they believe women should spend more time on their careers than on the family.

About 76 percent of respondents who lived in villages held the sexist view, while 62 percent of respondents who hailed from Moscow or St. Petersburg said the same.

VTsIOM surveyed 1,600 people at the beginning of March. The poll has a margin of error of 3.4 percent.
