NATO airstrike kills five Afghan army troops

KABUL, Afghanistan, March 6 (UPI) -- An airstrike by coalition forces in Logar province Thursday killed five Afghan army troops and wounded eight others, the Afghan Defense Ministry said.

Ministry spokesman Zahir Azimi said an investigation has begun into the incident that occurred in the province's Charkh district, Khaama Press reported.

In a statement, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force confirmed that "at least five Afghan National Army personnel were accidentally killed this morning during an operation in eastern Afghanistan," offered condolences and said an investigation was being conducted.
