PARIS, March 6 (UPI) -- Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife announced Thursday they will sue over the leak of taped conversations made by a former political adviser.

Sarkozy and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy will take action, claiming breach of privacy, against Partick Buisson, Radio France Internationale reported Thursday. The charges carry penalties of a year imprisonment and a 45,000 euro ($62,365) fine.

Buisson, who became a Sarkozy adviser in 2005, claims to no longer have possession of the tapes, which were made in order to write a book about his time with Sarkozy.

Buisson's son, Georges, has denied speculation he is the source of the leaks, Radio France Internationale said.

Sarkozy and Bruni-Sarkozy's lawyers said the couple "cannot accept that private conversations have been recorded and published without their consent."
