JERUSALEM, March 3 (UPI) -- The Shiite Islamic militant group Hezbollah denied reports Monday Israel's air force bombed an arms shipment traveling from Syria to Lebanon last week.
"We and the Israelis know there wasn't any weapons transfer from Syria into Lebanon," said the unidentified person, referred to by the Kuwaiti newspaper A-Rai as a source close to Hezbollah's leadership. He added the strike was "to send a message."
He added the airstrike came near the village of Jarud Jonta, an area of logistic importance at the Syria-Lebanon border where arms are smuggled, the Jerusalem Post reported.
The source said Hezbollah, currently engaged in the Syrian conflict, "won't hesitate to open up a hostile front against Israel" if necessary, adding, "the presence of Hezbollah operatives in Syria won't impact its readiness [for war] in Lebanon against Israel."
