VATICAN CITY, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Pope Francis offered another conciliatory stance in a sermon in the Vatican Friday, preaching compassion for people in failed marriages.
He urged the Catholic faithful "not to condemn" those whose marriages fail during a homily at St. Martha's House, the Vatican guest house he uses as a residence, adding, "we should feel the pain of the failure (of a marriage), (and) accompany those people who have had this failure in their own love. Don't condemn them. Walk with them."
The pope's comment was his latest in a series of liberal overtures, the Italian news agency ANSA said, noting he has washed the feet of a Muslim girl to show humility, said he was not prepared to judge gays and has issued several pronouncements condemning the effects of global capitalism since he became pope in March 2013.
