BANGKOK, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Fifteen people, including 12 children, were killed Friday when a school bus lost its brakes and crashed into a truck in central Thailand, police said.

Police Lt. Kittikarn Klomlee said survivors of the crash told him the brakes failed as the bus was speeding down a hill before the collision, CNN reported.

The crash happened in Prachinburi province as the bus was taking school girls, between the ages of 10 and 14, from Nakhon Ratchasima province to a beach at Pattaya, authorities said.

About 60 people were injured, Klomlee said, many in serious condition at area hospitals.
