1,094 Chinese arrested for baby trafficking; 382 babies rescued

BEIJING, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Police in China recently arrested 1,094 people who were accused of online baby trafficking and rescued 382 babies, the Ministry of Public Security said.

The arrests of four major online baby-trafficking groups led to the rescues Feb. 19, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The groups were accused of offering babies on illegal online platforms under the guise of being adoption or "re-homing" centers.

The Ministry of Public Security vowed Thursday to crack down on illegal baby trafficking.
