Concrete beam falls on construction workers near Bangkok, kills 11

BANGKOK, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A concrete beam fell on a group of construction workers Tuesday in a Bangkok suburb, killing 11 of the workers and wounding more than a dozen, Thai police said.

Police Lt. Col. Somchai Piakhan said about 27 workers were on their lunch break when the beam fell on them, CNN reported.

Crews worked to clear debris to free anyone caught beneath the concrete and steel, police said. At least one worker was trapped beneath the rubble, police said.

The collapse happened at the construction site of a new hospital.
