German woman sentenced to 6 years in prison for killing husband

HALLE, Germany, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A German woman has been sentenced to six years in prison for killing her abusive husband with an ax, cutting him into pieces and burying him in her garden.

The 60-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was found guilty of manslaughter after admitting to the crime, which occurred four years ago, TheLocal.de reported.

She said that her husband of 25 years initially attacked her with the ax after she told him she was going to leave him.

The woman then smashed his skull with the ax, cut up the corpse and used 11 garbage bags to bury him.

She told her family that her husband had left her and was living with her brother.

The family was glad he was gone due to the abusive nature of the relationship, and his disappearance went unnoticed until March 2013, when his daughter reported him missing.

Although the defense team argued that the woman committed the attack as a result of their marital problems, the judge ruled that the situation did not justify the crime.
