Yemen, Africa's poorest country, has been the subject of internal strife for decades. The southern half of the country was independent from the time Great Britain released colonial control in 1967 and a reunification effort in the 1990s. Independent sentiment runs high in the region and separatists have staged an increasing number of ambush-style attacks in recent months, Middle East Online said.
