Yemen prison attack freed 29 prisoners, 8 killed

SANAA, Yemen, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Twenty-nine prisoners escaped the central prison in Sanaa, Yemen, during an attack on the facility that killed seven guards, an Interior Ministry official said.

The attackers detonated a car bomb Thursday night while others opened fire on the prison to facilitate the escape, the Yemeni news agency SABA reported Friday.

The bomb blasted a hole into the prison wall, through which 29 prisoners -- including 19 linked to terrorism -- escaped.

Seven guards and policemen were killed in the attack and four others were injured.
