Shooting death of Ukraine judge linked to judicial rulings

KIEV, Ukraine, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- A Ukrainian judge who recently sentenced several protesters to house arrest was shot and killed in an attack near his home, police said Wednesday.

Authorities linked the death of District Court Judge Alexander Lobodenko, 34, to his judicial work, RIA Novosti reported.

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry said Lobodenko was shot several times in the back Tuesday night near his home in central Ukraine. One bullet grazed his spine. He died early Wednesday.

Lobodenko last month sentenced two anti-government protesters to two months' house arrest for breaking into the Kremenchug City Hall.

Police did not speculate which of the judge's rulings may have resulted in his slaying.
