Lebanese Army arrests terror suspect

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The Lebanese Army said Wednesday it has arrested a suspected terrorist and recovered and disarmed two car bombs that were to be detonated soon.

The (Beirut) Daily Star said Palestinian Naim Abbas, a top member of the al-Qaida-linked terrorist group the Abdullah Azaam Brigades, was taken into custody after security officials tracked him leaving a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon.

Authorities said other bomb-making material and several missiles were also recovered and Abbas allegedly confessed to plotting the terrorist bombings. One of the car bombs was to go off somewhere in Beirut and another in an undetermined location in eastern Lebanon, the Daily Star said.

The Abdullah Azam Brigades is thought to be behind the deadly bombing outside the Iranian embassy in Beirut last year that killed 19 people.
