TEHRAN, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Iranian nuclear officials and negotiators from the United Nations nuclear watchdog held talks in Tehran Saturday on Iran's nuclear program.

The talks were led by Tero Tapio Varjoranta, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Reza Najafi, Iran's ambassador to the IAEA, the Tasnim news agency reported.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, a spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said the goal of the discussions was to build a closer relationship between Iran and the international agency.

Iran and the IAEA agreed in November to a road map for future discussions that included voluntary inspection of Iran's nuclear facilities. IAEA inspectors visited the Arak heavy water plant and Gachin uranium mine in December and January.
