Katit-Staheli allegedly took her 10-month-old son Dylan from a Zurich, Switzerland, hospital, where he was being treated for hydrocephalus, or fluid on the brain. She was arrested in a supermarket in Spain and taken in handcuffs with her baby to a Torrevieja, Spain, hospital so the child could be treated for hydrocephalus.

At the hospital, she received permission to change the baby's diaper and killed the boy in a locked bathroom with a concealed knife, police allege. She attempted suicide in the bathroom with the same knife by cutting her jugular vein, Think Spain said.

At the court hearing, Judge Natalia Martinez called for Katit-Staheli to be held pending a trial.
