MOSCOW, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A freight train derailed early Wednesday in Russia's Kirov region, and 32 natural gas tanker cars on the 65-car train exploded, authorities said.

The blaze took more than 300 firemen to extinguish, emergency officials said in a statement.

Seven hundred residents were evacuated as a result of the incident, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.

The investigative committee said the derailment was likely caused by faulty wiring.

No injuries had been reported.
