LONGUEUIL, Quebec, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- A man who attacked two security guards carrying bags of money outside a bank in Longueuil, Quebec, early Saturday was shot dead by one of them, police said.

The 32-year-old man, whose name hadn't been released, apparently was trying to rob the two guards when he was shot about 1:30 a.m. EST, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. He was pronounced dead at a hospital about an hour later.

"There were two money transporters that were in the ATM section of the TD bank, and they were bringing out the bags of money to their truck. Suddenly a 32-year-old man attacked them physically and during the altercation a shot was fired and the suspect was injured," Longueuil police Constable Marc David said.

Police said they were searching for a weapon that could have belonged to the alleged robber.
