KNYAZE-VOLKONSKOYE, Russia, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Three Russian servicemen were killed in a munitions explosion in a combat vehicle during a training operation in the Khabarovsk Region, military officials said.

The armored vehicle was participating in a live-fire exercise Thursday in Knyaze-Volkonskoye, RIA Novosti reported.

"As a result of the blast, three troops, including an officer, were killed," a Defense Ministry spokesman said.

Investigators were trying to determine what caused the explosion.
