BEIJING, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A 38-year-old man in China went on a shooting rampage, killing at least six people in a village before escaping, police said.

The man also wounded three more people in the incident in Qingkou village in southwest China's Yunnan province, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The suspect, who is from the same village, apparently carried a semiautomatic rifle. Police said he escaped in a vehicle but other details of the shootings were not immediately available.

Police were offering a $33,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's capture.
