Moroccan minister denies saying Berlusconi sex partner was 18

ROME, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Supporters of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi say an exotic dancer was 18 when she had sex with him.

There were calls Monday for prosecutors who won a seven-year sentence for the prime minister to apologize, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. They came after Moroccan Civil Service Minister Mohamed Moubdil was quoted on an Arabic website as saying he had signed the birth certificate of Karima el-Mahroug, known as Ruby, in 1992.

On Tuesday, however, Moubdil denied knowing el-Mahroug or saying anything about her birth date.

"I don't know Ruby's birth date, I don't know Karima and I don't know when she met Berlusconi, so if she was an adult or a minor," Moubdii told Italian radio.

Berlusconi, 77, a communications magnate before he got into politics, remains at the head of the Forza Italia party as he appeals convictions and fights new investigations. He was ejected from the Italian Senate.

He says he is the victim of a left-wing conspiracy.

"I'm here, and I'm staying here," Berlusconi said last week.
