IAEA begins inspection of Iran uranium mine

Jan. 29, 2014 at 6:55 PM   |   Comments

TEHRAN, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Inspectors from the international nuclear watchdog agency are at the Gachin uranium mine, Iranian officials said Wednesday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency's inspection of the Gachin mine in southern Iran is a step in the roadmap outlined by the country and the agency late last year, Press TV reported.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said the group arrived in Tehran on Tuesday and then traveled to the port of Bandar Abbas, where the mine is located.

The IAEA inspected Iran's heavy water plant at Arak in December.
