Truck strikes pedestrian walkway in Brazil, four dead

RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A dump truck struck an overhead pedestrian walkway on a Rio de Janeiro highway Tuesday morning, killing four people, authorities said.

The truck was operating during prohibited hours and had its elevated truck bed raised when it struck the walkway, the Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported.

Five people were also injured.

The fatalities were a motorcyclist and three people in a taxi who were struck by the falling walkway, O Globo said.
