PARIS, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Valerie Trierweiler will visit India, her first public outing since allegations her partner, French President Francois Hollande, is involved in an affair.
Her two-day trip to Mumbai this weekend is in support of the French aid group Action Against Hunger. It comes after she spent two weeks resting in a hospital and in the presidential residence following a report in the gossip magazine Closer that Hollande has secret trysts with actress Julie Gayet, Radio France Internationale reported Friday.
Neither Hollande, 59, nor Trierweiler, 48, has commented on the claims. Treirweiler fired her lawyer, Frederique Giffard, after he said Thursday she was aware the public needed some clarification on the affair.
It was unclear whether Trierweiler was invited to India in her role as France's first lady, Radio France Internationale said, but her chief of staff at the palace said he was the sole person authorized to speak on her behalf, an indication Trierweiler still considers herself first lady.
