Russian mom ordered to pay fine for giving children vodka

UFA, Russia, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A Russian woman who admitted giving her children vodka to help them fall asleep has been ordered to pay a $75 fine, officials said.

Anastasia Kornaukhova was charged with child abuse for giving her children, including a 3-year-old son, alcohol, RIA Novosti reported.

Prosecutors in the city of Ufa said Kornaukhova was a heavy drinker who "did not clean up her apartment" and was often away from home, leaving her children with neighbors.

After a criminal case was opened against her, Kornaukhova was informed she could lose custody of her children, so she improved her parenting, the prosecutors said.

The court ordered regular inspections by social service workers to ensure Kornaukhova's are safe in the home.
