DU CHAR YAR TAN, Myanmar, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A mob of Buddhists allegedly killed more than 30 Rohingya Muslims in attacks in Myanmar's Rakhine state, officials said.
The attacks took place over a five-day period last week in and around the village of Du Char Yar Tan, the BBC reported.
International aid officials granted access to the area said they found evidence of mass killings.
Media reports conflicted on the number of people killed, with some saying as many as 70 people, including women and children, died in the attacks.
Rohingya Muslims are considered a stateless people, being rejected by both Myanmar -- formerly Burma -- and neighboring Bangladesh. Recent tensions rose in Rakhine after reports of clashes between Rohingyas and police in Maungdaw last month.
At least 200 people have been killed in clashes between Rohingyas and Buddhists in the region since 2012, the BBC said.
