MOSCOW, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- An Egyptian man who was seeking asylum in Russia has been exposed as an al-Qaida member and detained, Moscow migration officials said.

Moscow's Federal Security Service officers arrested him in October 2013, migration official Olga Kirillova said.

No further details about the man were released.

Security forces reported in November that 15 suspects of the banned group At-Takfir Wal-Hijra had been detained.

The group has links to al-Qaida and began in Egypt in the 1970s or 1980s.
