RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A suicide bomb attack Monday killed at least 13 people and injured 24 in a crowded shopping area in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, authorities said.

The bomb was set off by a person believed to be riding a bicycle in the RA Bazaar area near the headquarters of the Pakistan army, GEO News reported.

The banned Pakistani Taliban, or Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility, the report said.

Six security officers were among the dead, officials said.

The bombing came a day after an explosion, also claimed by the TTP, killed 22 Pakistani soldiers in a convoy in the town of Bannu in northwest Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
