U.S. lawmakers hold talks with Egypt army commander Sisi

CAIRO, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The chief of Egypt's army met Sunday with a U.S. congressional delegation, a military source told Ahram Online.

The six-person party was led by Rep. Dana Rohrbacher, R-Calif., and will also meet with interim President Adly Mansour during its two-day visit to Cairo.

Sunday's meeting with army head Abdel-Fattah El Sisi focused on Middle East developments and state of relations between the two nations, the source said.

The previously scheduled visit was not tied to the passage of a constitutional referendum that passed in Egypt last week and replaced the constitution drafted in 2012 by the Islamist-leading government of President Mohamed Morsi, who was later ousted by the military.
