The decision was made after defense officials determined that the likelihood of a chemical attack against Israel had declined substantially, largely due to Syria's decommission of the weapons, Haaretz reported.
Manufacturers will still make the masks, but they will only be used for emergency teams, the prime minister's bureau said in a statement.
The decision will be reviewed at the end of the year after a new defense assessment.
