RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Six women were killed when they fell into a pond and drowned while picnicking in Saudi Arabia, officials said.

The women, four sisters and two cousins ages 18 to 25, were having a picnic in the Armah area, about 70 miles northeast of the Saudi capital Riyadh, when one of them fell in the pond, Gulf News reported.

The other women attempted to rescue her, but also drowned, police said.

Divers recovered four of the bodies as of Saturday afternoon, officials said. During the operation to recover the bodies, two unidentified bodies were also found in the pond.
