ARSAL, Lebanon, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Rockets fired from Syria struck the Lebanese town of Arsal, killing seven people, including two children, witnesses in the community said.

Five of the victims were in a house hit by one of five rockets fired at the border community, the Daily Star in Beirut reported Friday.

A security official told the Daily Star three houses were damaged in the Thursday attack, most likely linked to fighting between rebel and government forces in border towns inside Syria.

The rocket attack on Arsal was one of several targeting Lebanese border areas, a security source told the Daily Star.

The Lebanese Army confirmed the attacks, saying 20 rockets and shells launched from Syria struck several communities along the Lebanese border.
