14 injured in 57-car pile-up in United Arab Emirates

ABU SAMRAH, United Arab Emirates, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- A multiple-vehicle crash on Al Ain-Abu Dhabi road in the United Arab Emirates early Thursday left at least 14 people injured, authorities said.

The accident happened near Abu Samrah on both sides of the road, with 39 vehicles ramming into each other on the Al Ain-bound side and 18 other vehicles crashing on the Abu Dhabi side, Gulf News reported.

"It was total chaos," said witness Ahmad Sharif.

Some of those injured have been transported to hospitals, authorities said.

Police said that a thick fog was in the area at the time of the collisions.
