MAIDUGURI, Nigeria, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Many people are feared dead or injured from the explosion of a car bomb in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, officials say.
The blast occurred near a market, the BBC reported.

Military officials confirmed the explosion, but did not indicate the number of casualties.
People covered in blood were seen fleeing the scene. A witness said he had seen what appeared to be dead bodies.
The blast caused cars to crash into each other, and a car was reportedly set on fire by the explosion.
