GROZNY, Russia, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said a charity would pay $1,000 to each family naming a baby after Muhammad on the day of the prophet's birth.

The funds were offered through a charity privately sponsored by Kadyrov's mother, Aimani Kadyrova, the leader said in a post on Instagram.

In the tradition of Sunni Islam, Monday was the prophet's birthday and any baby named after Muhammad, or any of his wives, children or 10 companions to whom he promised paradise, would receive $1,000 from the charity, RIA Novosti reported.
