Swedish court: Ethnic groups have different alcohol tolerances

KALSKRONA, Sweden, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- A Swedish court said in dropping drunken driving charges against an Asian man that "different ethnic groups react differently to alcohol intake."

The 63-year-old man was arrested on drunken driving charges after workers at a Kalskrona gas station reported he appeared intoxicated and police visited his home, where his blood alcohol content was measured at more than eight times the 0.02 legal limit, TheLocal.se reported Friday.

The man and two witnesses told police the man had been drinking whiskey since arriving home and had consumed only a small glass of beer before driving.

The court dismissed the charges, saying police could not prove the man had driven under the influence of alcohol. The court also said it should be "considered general knowledge that people from different ethnic groups react differently to alcohol intake."
