ORIZABA, Mexico, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A U.S. climber fell to his death on Pico de Orizaba, the highest mountain in Mexico and third highest in North America, officials say.
The body of Charles King, 25, was recovered Sunday, Milenio reported. King's climbing companion and a father and son from Guatemala were rescued.
The mountain, also known as Citlaltepetl, lies more than 100 miles southeast of Mexico City on the border of the states of Veracruz and Puebla. It is a dormant stratovolcano and at 18,491 feet is second only to Kilimanjaro in Africa among volcanic peaks.
The Guatemalans, Douglas Leonardo Obregon, 45, and Sebastian Leonardo Lima, 15, were rescued by helicopter from more than 15,000 feet, officials said. They were reported to be in stable condition at a hospital.
