Spanish judge orders Princess Cristina to appear in court

MADRID, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A judge in Spain ordered Princess Cristina to appear in court to explain her involvement in her husband's multimillion-dollar embezzlement case.

Judge Jose Castro of Palma said Cristina should answer whether she knew her husband, Inaki Urdangarin, was using her name and status to advance his questionable business deals.

The princess is scheduled to appear in court March 8, El Pais reported Tuesday.

Urdangarin is suspected of using his royal status to secure inflated sports contracts from regional politicians for his foundation, Instituto Noos, and then directing millions of euros to other companies and offshore accounts controlled by him and his associates.
