Brother of notorious Toronto Mayor Rob Ford says he is leaving council

TORONTO, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Doug Ford, brother of notorious Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, says he is giving up his City Council seat but another relative might make a run for it.

The Fords, members of the Progressive Conservative Party, are one of Toronto's top political dynasties -- the mayor and councilman are sons of the late Doug Ford Sr., who represented a Toronto district in the provincial assembly in the 1990s. But the family was little-known outside of Ontario until the Toronto Star reported Rob Ford had been videotaped smoking crack.

Doug Ford in an interview with Newstalk 1010 did not reveal who would be the next Ford to go into politics, the Star reported. He did say it would not be his daughter, Krista, a Lingerie Football League player, and the Star described a third Ford brother, Randy, as an unlikely candidate.

That leaves a nephew, Michael, son of Kathy Ford, Doug's sister. He is still in college and working at the Ford family business, Deco Labels, according to his social media listings.

Doug Ford said he is considering running for the provincial assembly.
